The Snug !

Fridays is our Ashburton morning...but imagine my surprise (and squeals of delight!) when dear Mr Snippets said that he had to also nip to Totnes, on business!
;-)
How many girls get all that in one day, especially as we are going to Totnes again, tomorrow, for the day!
My first port of call, in Ashburton, was here.
It's a delightful little shop called 'The Snug' and it has an even more delightful owner, Ros!
It was lovely to meet her.
We plucked up the courage to ask her if we could take some photos and she was so thrilled to be asked...and so here goes....

I adore this shop!
As with all gorgeous shops like this, you need to take your time and walk around umpteen times to savour the flavour!

This is a flavour which I love. The taste is irresistible!
I'm sure you can taste it too!

And you find yourself returning for more..and more.

Ros has so many vintage delights and...

beautiful linens.

And that's not all!

And , for me, much of it is a grand history lesson.

And so...

If you are in this area for your hols...get yourself to Ashburton!
That's an order!!
;-)

But do ring first to make sure she will be open!
The number is above!
And as for Totnes...that'll keep until next time as you've had enough treats for today !
Have a wonderful weekend!
;-)

A whole two paragraphs!

I'm feeling a tad excited today as I'm off to meet a writer!!
Recently, whilst I was sat quietly in my study, preparing some English lessons, I received an email .
Dear Sal...

I'm writing an article for a magazine about 'Vintage in the home' and I was wondering if you'd mind writing a little something for me as I always like to use a 'live quote'....!

And so 'Dear Sal' obliged and I'm going to be in print!!
Way hay!
A whole two paragraphs of what I think about 'Vintage in the home'!
But you'll have to wait to see what I wrote.... as it is not published until September .
Meanwhile, I have been sent the full article to read and today I get to go and meet the writer for
coffee and a jolly good natter!
All to be revealed later on!
What fun!
Hope your day is too!

Snippets , Smiles... and Lime Green ;-)

Today's subject is:

The versatility of pillowcases! ;-)

I know I deserve to be shot for this...noone in their right mind cuts up an old, candy stripe pillowcase... do they?
I am so very sorry ;-)

Anyway...

On Monday, I made these three, little aprons ...using up some odd scraps of fabric and embroidery to decorate them.

And now to cushions..
This lovely patchwork cushion, with the red vintage buttons came from Amanda...or I should say Amanda's mum, who made it so beautifully, from a vintage quilt.

And...this little beauty...

I hit downtown N.A. this morning, with my mum, and we went back to the charity shop with the linen sale...here's one I missed earlier and so she kindly bought it for me!

It's beautiful but actually has a lot of spotty brown age marks on it so I won't feel so bad about.....err umm...you know what!

Finally things are looking up in Newton Abbot.
A very nice wool shop has opened in Queen Street and I really do wish them all the success.
Here's why in one word:

Service!

....with a flamin smile!
How novel is that! ;-)

To be welcomed so warmly by the lady owner, was quite noticeable (and ought to be noted by one or two other shop owners nearby!)
Funnily enough, my own motto has always been,

'A smile costs nothing'
;-)

A delightful shop with plenty of stock and plenty of room to move...so a gold star from me!

The Wool Gallery

I'm sure everyone has seen these patterns before..but they were jumping out, asking to be snapped!

And missing from this pile is the lime green ball of cotton yarn...!
Don't ask me why...I just fancied it!

Port Eliot Part 2 : Showing off the best of Devon...in Cornwall!

Take one gorgeous, sunny day, one super duper setting and a whole load of vintage/shabby/chic.
Stir it all up!
Strategically place, both inside and outside a CK gazebo.
Titivate!
Decorate!
(So the customers will salivate!)
Circulate!
Spread your goodies a bit more, under a few umbrellas and ....
Deck the chairs with things so jolly (tra la la la la etc etc)!
(Sing along please!)
Stand back and observe! (Maybe give yourself a pat on the back if you feel you can!)
String up the bunting...

Remember to take the steps, so you can reach high to peg your name...even though everyone knows who you are by now ! ;-)
Show off your best linens!
And, for those people who have packed picnics and forgotten their cups, provide some lovely pastel cups and saucers, which are all the rage, of course!
Oh...I almost forgot... show off the 'alternative' vintage seating!
Be prepared to loan it out if someone should ask! ;-)
Do a 'final check' to make sure all is showing its 'best side'!
Smile...and ...await your customers!
;-)
All that I can say is.....
Didn't she do well?
Don't forget BBC2 Weds 7pm!
(see previous post)
;-)
