Our simple, little, Christmas tree is finally decorated and the Christmas ‘flavour’ has arrived in the lounge.
Meanwhile…
Do you do ‘games’ at Christmas?
One member of the family always requests that I do ‘games’! Over the years, it’s been a bit of a family tradition. When we were younger, the ‘games’ were quite boisterous…and we’d scamper around the house doing treasure hunts, barging each other out of the way… and all sorts! But nowadays, these games are far more leisurely, sitting down with a booklet and pen.
And so…so far I’ve just planned:
a) A Christmas quiz consisting of 35 Christmas themed questions.
b) A guess the ‘famous faces’ game ( old mags come in handy for this!)
c) A ‘guess the advert’ game ( advert pages ripped from mags with the appropriate wording deleted)
d) A ‘guess the famous novel’ from the endings.
e) A ‘guess the town or city’ ( from info given)
I quickly knocked up some small booklets for people to write their answers…and not forgetting some small prizes! What fun! Mr Snippets is so excited! 😂😂😂
And finally, you might recall that I mentioned the lovely illustrations of Lucy Grossmith. She designed the cover of last year’s Country Life. I discovered that she has also designed this year’s as well…isn’t it lovely?

Your Christmas sounds fun, we have not played games, instead playing with the children and their new toys.
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas quiz idea is a lovely one.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful illustration - times gone past, or as we might imagine them to have been.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking about Christmas games last night. We used to play games in my childhood, and I tried to introduce them to my own family, but they never caught on, sadly.
Hello Sal,
ReplyDeleteGames, for us are definitely not just for Christmas. They have provided year round entertainment in place of a television these past 40 or so years and always have pride of place at any party. We love them and find that even guests who are reluctant at first soon enter into the spirit of things.
A game we would suggest to add for your list....not needing any running about and very little preparation....we call Kim's game. [Not sure who Kim ever was]. This involves getting a tray and placing on it 20 random items. The tray is brought in covered and players gather round within sight of the tray. Then the tray is uncovered for 2 minutes....no writing allowed... then the tray is recovered and players have to list as many of the 20 items that they can in 5 minutes. Winner is the one with most correct items on the list.
Your Christmas tree looks very festive.
That cover of Country Life is beautiful
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Have fun!

Have a fun time this Christmas. The tree looks lovely decorated and I'm sure everyone will enjoy the Christmas games booklet you have made. Lucy Grossmith's front cover for Country Life is beautiful and there are so many small details to see. She is very talented.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful tree you have Sal. I love it! Playing games sounds like a whole lot of fun! I am a big fan of Lucy Grossmith's artwork. Found out about her a few years ago on Pinterest. Her style is lovely! Thanks for your sweet congratulations on our 50th wedding anniversary. You asked where did we get married. It was a hop, skip and a jump from where you live. The village is Marldon between Paignton and Torquay, and the church was St. John the Baptist.
ReplyDeleteLovely tree, we've just put ours up yesterday.
ReplyDeleteI love the little books you've made for your Christmas quiz! What a lovely idea!
