Tiffin Tuesday!

‘Tiffin Tuesday’ has become a weekly event for my other half and myself!

We meet up with my sister and her husband, taking it in turns to host the day. Note that I say ‘day’! Originally,  it started off as just a coffee morning with ‘ bits on the coffee table’  but it soon extended (call it mission creep!) until later in the day and so now we do coffee and then lunch and then say our goodbyes at around 4pm ish!

The word ‘tiffin’ is a word that we always used when our children were little. ‘Tiffin time’ was always enjoyed by our four children sitting on four red chairs around their ‘Early Learning Centre’ red table…I can remember it so well!

So what about the word , ‘tiffin’?

Tiffin, apparently, is a South Asian English word for a type of meal. It refers to a light breakfast or a light teatime meal at about 3pm. In some parts of India, it can also refer to a midday lunch or an ‘in between meal’ snack.

In the British Raj, ‘ tiffin’ was used to denote the British custom of the afternoon tea. The word is derived from another word, ‘tiffing’, an English colloquial term meaning to take a little drink.

And so, moving on…

On ‘Tiffin Tuesday’, my sister and I always take each other a little something for hosting the day! Usually it’s just a token gift. However, I’ve had such a busy few days that I’d completely forgotten about this! What to do?

I had to plan William's art work for Thursday and so I ventured into my workroom…

Here I am, at the ready…( this metal ornament has always tickled me; I bought it many years ago from a local shop and it stands on my windowsill overlooking the action!)

I very soon got cracking, as they say!

Firstly…can you guess what William will be doing?

One for his mummy and one for his daddy! I’m sure they will be delighted! 😁

My mind, which was now blank, then turned to what to do for my sister. I couldn’t think of anything and so I decided to make some smaller, Easter bunny tags and envelopes. Knowing that my sister likes to give little gifts to her own grandchildren, I thought these might be apt.

And so..that’s what I’ve done…

And now I’m off out to enjoy the day! And after that I’ll be cheering for Exeter City…just as I did for Argyle at the weekend! In spite of being a Torquay United supporter, I love to see the other Devon teams doing well! 😁
