The best trips out are always the unplanned ones! And today, having popped to post a parcel, we decided to drive up the Teign Valley… to Dartmoor
We found ourselves here...Princetown. Princetown is obviously famous for its prison, which was established in the late 18th century, to house French prisoners of war during the Napoleonic Wars.
Much later on, following the establishment of the Devon Constabulary, in 1856, the police house, in Princetown, was opened. And in 1958, this was replaced by a new police station. Thus, the old police house was converted into a cafe. We called in for lunch and I have to say that it was really busy!
A trip across Dartmoor is always a treat, mainly because, at this time of year, it’s very quiet and you almost have the moors to yourself!
However, when it comes to trying to find a seat in a coffee house/ cafe, now that’s a different matter! (And they say there’s no money around!)
Last Monday, we went all the way to Powderham, one of my favourite places because you have the cafe, the food shop, the garden sundries and the plant centre all close to each other…
Could we get a seat in the cafe? No! It was full…and as well as full…it was so noisy! So we looked around and then we started to make our way home…or so I thought. My other half then decided to take the coast road to Torquay…always a pleasant ride.
And here’s where we ended up…
We didn’t go into the caves. I’ve done that a few times in the past…and with classes of children.
And so, Stalactites and Stalagmites were not on the menu…(but remember this…‘mites’ go up and ‘tites’ go down! 🤣😂😱)
The cafe was really clean and the gardens really well cared for…we will definitely return.
Moving on…back in the craft room, I’ve mainly been adding the finishing touches to some scrapbook pages that I began quite some time ago. The idea is that one can put photos in the appropriate places. Here’s a girlie themed page…
Here’s a baby themed page…
And here’s a baby boy page…
A making memories/ girl themed page…
A ‘someone’s little princess’ page…
Do you enjoy scrapbooking? I have to admit that I’ve taken a break from it for quite some time, but now that I’ve returned to it, it’s quite enjoyable.
How nice to have an unplanned trip out, going where the fancy takes you - or your driver!
ReplyDeleteI like your scrapbook pages - colourful and imaginative and just fun.
