There’s nothing like a South Devon hedgerow to get the excitement levels rising! This is one of the things that I love about my county! As a little girl, my grandma would take me for walks around the lanes where she lived, in Kingskerswell…in the days when traffic was light and you more or less had the lanes to yourself. She taught me so much about wild flowers ; the hedgerow was far better stocked in those days!
On Monday, we hit traffic problems, meaning that at one point we were stuck in the lanes trying to reach Gardentime at Dartmouth, but going way out of our way to reach our destination! However, it gave me a chance to wind down the windows and snap! It was a grand meeting of Red and Pink Campion, Bluebells, Hedge Parsley, Stitchwort and Valerian..all coming together as if having a real celebration! Stunning!
Eventually, we managed to extricate ourselves from the jammed lanes and after a quick stop at Gardentime, we wended our way towards Torcross. We do tend to go this way rather a lot as to be honest,I love the area and never tire of it! Never!
Below is Blackpool Sands.
Here is the view looking towards the Slapton Line…
On reaching Torcross, we found that our favourite cafe, ‘The Billy Can’, was closed, and so we had to find a Plan B, which we did when we drove further, at The Valley View Cafe, overlooking the Aune Valley. Once fed and watered, we made a quick stop at The Avon Mill Garden Centre and then we journeyed on, towards home. However, not wanting to get caught in any more traffic, we travelled in a different direction towards Ashburton and Dartmoor!
We made our way across the moors. Above is Ripon Tor.
Below are the Haytor Rocks….
And this is where we just had to stop and have…..it had to be done! ๐ฆ
What a lovely day out, Sal! I don't know Gardentime or The Billy Can, but it was lovely to hear your post, and with such wonderful photos of the hedgerows, and that view of Blackpool Sands is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWell this day trip brought back many childhood memories. . . .even a tear or two. Now I'm homesick for Devon hedgerows and Dartmoor! Looks like awesome weather every day - hope you are able to get out to other pretty places while the sun is shining Sal.

What a lovely day out. The hedgerows have a wonderful variety of flowers and colour and you've just got to have ice cream to finish off the day:)
