Acton Scott Historic Working Farm

Ok...got your boots on?

Today, I give you rural life at the turn of the 20th century.

Well..not me exactly..but this place does.

Acton Scott

And this is a must to visit!
You've no doubt seen it on tv?

As I walked around I was in 'teacher mode' somewhat!
Ah... the history and the creative work...there's so much to give a class of children such a wonderful day!

Not to mention adults.
I really wanted this old hut for my garden!
Oh for pockets big enough!

And all around there were reminders of how life once was....and still is as this is a working farm.

And joy of joys...the school house!

It's now a cafe..and obviously we did stop awhile!

What a beautiful setting for a school!
Built in 1866 at a cost of £600.
Closed in 1951.

Ah, now how lucky that our visit coincided
with the village scarecrow competition?

;-)

Wandering some more..

And then we came across the most stunning old fashioned cottage garden.

The farmyard and pig sty

It was the most wonderful visit and I highly recommend it if you have not yet been.

Well, after all that it was time for afternoon tea!
But where to go?
We were thirsty... and actually we knew exactly where we were going!

Come and have a cuppa with us....I'll take you to the nicest tea rooms !

Ready? My treat!

;-)

  2. Oh, what a lovely outing you have given us all, Sal, and tea to follow! I would love to visit Acton Scott, and have the DVDs of the Victorian Farm, well worth watching several times over. Shropshire/Herefordshire has much to offer, does it not?

  3. Thank you so much! I am really enjoying my trip with you.
I miss old buildings very much indeed. When I lived in England and Scotland I took them all for granted, and now I am here in Canada, I miss them.

  5. Lovely Sal. I lived for many years on the Bridgnorth side of Wolverhampton and Acton Scott was an annual pilgrimage, usually having lunch in Much Wenlock and then a picnic tea at AS. Gosh how it has improved in twenty years - thanks I did enjoy the tour.
