I thought of you...I bought you a picture!

I had a lovely surprise last week!
My mum handed me this pic, (above) which she found in the local Oxfam bookshop.
Her words were, 'I thought of you when I saw this!'
(She knows how much I love steam trains AND, of course, the 1950s!)
Painted in 1951 by Brian Fawcett.
In turn, I thought of someone when I found this:

'Where shall we nest?' by Eileen Soper.
Dear Mr S loves the garden birds so I'm going to get it framed for him asap!
These popular classroom posters were produced by Macmillan in the 1940s, when Enid Blyton worked with Eileen Soper on a set of classroom nature readers.
I already have this one - 'Gloves for the party' - in our very 'Foxglovey' bathroom!

Meanwhile , if you want to browse these lovely nature posters, you can look here:

  2. I really love that foxglove picture - just right for a foxglovey bathroom. But I have always thought that their paws would be too big to fit in them - maybe they should be foxcubgloves?

  10. Steam trains are wonderful aren't they? We are lucky to live quite close to two steam railway lines the Churnet Valley and the Foxfield and we often walk nearby and then sit on the platforms and watch the trains and just occasionally have a ride on them. What lovely pictures they all are:)
Oh, and yes - I will make jam!:)

  11. Ohh, lovely pictures !
Thank you for the link, I love Enid Blyton so much !
I collect old French books (or English not easy to find here ... lol) of her. I'm so happy when I find one from the 50's !
It's funny to see how the children's drawings have changed all along the decades in the books .
Have a nice day Sal !

  13. The first thing I thought when I opened your blog just now was how lovely the bird banner was. But I also love the steam train picture too. Despite being born in the early 70s I have a huge love of steam trains. Wish I'd been born when they were still around. My favourite film is The Railway Children. We're off down to our beloved Dorset next week and I'm sure there will be a trip on the Swanage/Corfe Castle steam train.
Thanks for your kind comment on my blog. I've been such a rubbish blogger lately. Not just neglecting my own blog but barely calling in on anyone else. So it's been lovely to receive messages saying I would be missed if I stopped. Will definitely carry on and start being a better blogger again! Fiona
