Off to school!

And there you have it! Another phase in William’s life has now started. His mum, Lizzie, was there too and she kindly sent me this photo, earlier today!

I then received a message from Nich saying, ‘Well he's all delivered. Typical William - no looking back, no goodbye, just wanted to go and play and make friends!’

Here he is, earlier this morning, all ready and waiting to go to school.

It certainly brought back memories of not only taking my own two children to school on their first day, but also of my teaching days in reception class!

The first day back at school was always, shall we say, ‘interesting’ ! I remember having to prise apart one or two parents and their children…and more often than not the parent could be worse than the child!

‘Just go,’ I’d say, ‘He/she will be perfectly fine! I’d always reassure them that they could ring up and check if they wished!

Mind you, there were always the very confident children too…and I remember one of them, a lively little lad with blonde hair, who bounded into the classroom like a whirlwind! I’m still in touch with his mum, all these years later and we still laugh about it!

But as my then headmaster once said to me, ‘ Just remember, Sally, they are all someone’s little darling!’ So true!

William, meanwhile, is doing half days this week, just to break him in gently! We will have him tomorrow, for the afternoon…so hopefully we will hear all about his new school. However, Nich messaged me earlier and said that when he fetched him, he didn’t tell him much! LOL!

But, well done William, it’s a huge step and it can be very daunting, so he’s done well!
