A good, old fashioned inn!

Yesterday, we decided to abandon any plans for another day out as the weather was very wet. And so we stayed close to home…very close!

We live minutes from ‘The Barn Owl Inn’ which is situated on the very edge of Kingskerswell. 

It’s a charming inn, with oak beams and wooden floors. It offers great food as well as  accommodation.

‘The Barn Owl Inn’ has quite a history too. 

It is a 300 year old, Grade ll listed former farmhouse, which was called Aller Barton Farm. In 1976, the land was sold to Devon County Council for the building of a new road…( which was not completed until 2015! That’s another story but just to say that the saga of the new road, ( the ‘Kingskerswell by pass’ ) rumbled on and on…and on…for years! ) 

Meanwhile, the farm buildings were bought by a Mr and Mrs Bird and they opened a licensed pub called, ‘The Birds Nest’. Time passed and eventually, under new owners, the name was changed to, ‘The Barn Owl Inn’.

As we arrived at ‘The Barn Owl Inn’, the heavens opened, confirming to us that we had definitely made the right decision. We were shown to our table and very soon we are enjoying one of the best Sunday Roasts that I’ve had in a long time! Generous, well cooked…and tasty!

Arriving back at home, to a very wet and soggy garden, I had a quick potter around to do some dead heading whilst it wasn’t raining, pausing briefly to snap some photos of these Sunflowers:

As I mentioned previously, I sowed these really late (I think it was the beginning of July), to give some late summer colour to the garden. They are a dwarf variety called ‘ Little Dorrit’ and they have been superb! Very cheery!
