Wednesday found us here at a very peaceful place, Buckfast Abbey.
It wasn’t that busy and after we’d had a cuppa, we strolled to the plant centre.
As you can see, William is very interested in plants and indeed all things connected with nature…
He had a little run around outside before we made our way home for the usual natter, catch up, look around Nich’s garden etc. I took a few cuttings from Nich’s ‘Bowles Mauve’ Erysimum, as I don’t have that one in my garden, and later on, back at home,I planted those.
Meanwhile…here is my ‘Penhill Watermelon’ Dahlia in all its splendour. It’s taken its time to flower but, by jove, it’s certainly a ‘biggun’! 😁
Mid August has also brought a second flush of roses! And they are lovely.
‘Roald Dahl’, below, has been superb, more or less throughout the summer.
‘Ruby Celebrations’, below, was a bit sparse in June but is now at its best.
‘The Poet’s Wife’, below, is one of those roses that just quietly gets on with it…I really do love this one.
‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ also took a while to get going but now it has plenty of buds.
And ‘Giggles’ is simply lovely as it giggles all over the place!
It’s been a good year for roses and, actually, the dreaded black spot has mostly stayed away.
Wednesday evenings…and we always try to have a slightly earlier night in order to be up early for William! He requested ‘dinosaurs’ and ‘flamingos ’ for his art work and so that’s what we did!
As I mentioned, he has a fascination with anything in the natural world and whilst we were in the garden, he found a few petals and I suggested that we press them and then next week, we’ll make something with them..maybe a card for Lizzie, his mummy.I got out the old flower press…so watch this space!
