Earlier today, off we trundled on another jolly jaunt! We are lucky enough to live not too far away from what is known as ‘The South Hams’ and we do tend to venture that way rather a lot!
I was a woman on a mission!
I’d known about Hare Spring Cottage Plants for quite some time, having ordered from them in the past and having seen them at various RHS shows.
But imagine my delight when I read that they had re-located from Yorkshire to The South Hams!
Generally, they are not open to the public. However, they do have certain weekends when they have Open Days! And this weekend just happened to be one of them!
As soon as we had parked and made our way to the entrance, we were greeted by Malcolm, above ( on the right, as you look at the photo), who certainly made us feel so very welcome. Malcolm and Stella are the owners of Hare Spring Cottage Plants and they have won awards and medals, here there and everywhere.
They hold the National Collection of Camassia… and as well as this, Hare Spring Cottage Plants is home to National Collections of Sidalcea and Uvularia. They also grow many other, lovely, garden perennials. Proper plants people… ‘right up my street’… (How I wish!)
I didn’t want to leave! Nor did I want to come home empty handed! Obviously! I’d been looking for some Primula and these pretty, pink Primula caught my eye. I also bought a white Primula and a Periwinkle.
Malcolm and Stella will be on the road soonish…

I can’t wait! 😂
It looks and sounds delightful - idyllic, as you said.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Spring photos. Thank you so much for sharing ❤️
ReplyDeleteYou had a wonderful day out. I'm not surprised you came away with some lovely new plants. I hadn't heard of Hare Spring Cottage Plants before but I will look out for them at the next gardening show. That greenhouse is wonderful, so elegant.
ReplyDeleteIt looks a lovely place to visit and the plants look wonderful. We have a few blue Camassia in our garden, I think they are so pretty:)
