Dartmoor

We are lucky enough to have Dartmoor on our doorstep and so a spur of the moment decision, yesterday, took us there.

Taking the road up the Teign Valley, for a change, (although, at the time, I did say, ‘never again’, as it was full of pot holes and not the best of drives!), it was, nevertheless, a pleasant ride and a quiet road.

Once on Dartmoor, and stopping at The Two Bridges Hotel for a welcome drink, we then made our way back via Widecombe in the Moor, just in time to meet the school traffic! By that, I mean cars parked so badly with not a thought for other drivers…a nightmare, seeing as the road is so narrow! There’s nothing like bad parking at school ‘chucking out time’, is there?

Yet, Dartmoor is truly a wonderful place and whenever I’m on Dartmoor I’m always reminded of  Stapleton’s words, in  ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’, written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle:

"It is a wonderful place, the moor," said he, looking round over the undulating downs, long green rollers, with crests of jagged granite foaming up into fantastic surges. "You never tire of the moor. You cannot think the wonderful secrets which it contains. It is so vast, and so barren, and so mysterious."

That just about sums up Dartmoor, perfectly!

Meanwhile, back at home,  in the garden…

Last year, I bought these lovely fern metal plant holders, which we eventually managed to put up a few weeks ago. I decided on a couple of trailing Geraniums, that were quite small when I bought them, so I re- potted them and hey presto, they are now in bloom and rather lovely.

  1. I did like your fern planters and it's lovely to see them supporting such lovely plants.
My fondest memories of Dartmoor are of stopping to let out our newly acquired liver Dalmatian puppy to stretch his legs - and stop stretching his bladder - on our way home. Wonderful - and it wasn't raining!

  3. That scenery is stunning, although I imagine it can get quite tricky trying to navigate those narrow lanes.
The fern plant holders are really lovely, and they look beautiful hung against the white walls. Xx
