Three delightful books by D.E.Stevenson

A few years ago, I was lucky enough to read, ‘Miss Buncle’s Book’ by D.E. Stevenson. It was hilarious! I enjoyed it so much that I bought the sequel, ‘Miss Buncle Married’. I enjoyed that too. And that was the extent of my journey into the life of Miss Buncle; that is until this week when I found a third book about the same character, entitled, ‘The Two Mrs Abbotts’.

All of my copies are from Persephone Books. I’ve long been a fan of their wonderful books. Quality books indeed they are and always lovely to hold

However, these books have also been published by various publishers, in the past…

Miss Buncle’s book is all about a lady, Barbara Buncle, who has fallen on hard times and she needs some income. So she has the idea of writing a novel. She draws inspiration from the residents of the English village where she lives…I’ll say no more! I would hate to spoil the fun!

Barbara Buncle is now married to Arthur Abbott, her publisher! After leaving the village and moving to London, Barbara and Arthur are enjoy their newly-wedded bliss, but they don’t enjoy city life. Thus, they return to the country and to the town of Wandlebury. Barbara falls in love with a run-down house and they eventually move in and make it their home.

Of course, Barbara can’t help herself and she soon becomes mixed up with those around her!

And again, I’ll say no more re that!

In ‘The Two Mrs Abbots’ we find Barbara raising her children during World War Two. She is also keeping her eye on her niece, Jerry Abbott, who happens to be married to the nephew of Barbara’s husband.

You’ll need to read the book in order to join Barbara in her further adventures!

And BTW…

If you purchase from Persephone Books, you usually receive a patterned bookmark which is identical to the endpapers of that particular book. A lovely touch.

D.E Stevenson has also written many other books. You can find out more about her  here .
