41 years ago, my lovely daughter entered the world. Helen weighed in at 7lbs 10 ozs …a good healthy weight!
It was at 7.15pm and it was at the old Newton Abbot Hospital. The hospital was exceedingly busy at that time! All beds were taken!
It was an old, grey bricked, Victorian building, which had been the old workhouse.
It was the most glorious spring weather and I remember that we often sat outside at the back of the building, seen in the photo above.
I also remember that it was around the time of The Falklands conflict. It wasn’t a particularly pleasant time and when I went into hospital, the British task force was on its way to the Falkland Islands….
When I came out of hospital, the task force still hadn’t reached its destination!
Helen was such a lovely baby too. She had a calm way about her most of the time
and she gave us little trouble
And she has continued to be a delightful daughter from that day!
Happy Birthday lovely Helen - and wishing you many, many more. Mum shared some awesome pix of you!
ReplyDeleteSal, I recall that old hospital - but I lived just minutes from the Torbay. I had my adenoids and tonsils removed (ridiculous what they did back then!) when I was about 5 which would have been 1948. It was just a small red stone building, not the huge hospital it is today!
