Contemporary Studies...or 'CS' as we called it...was part of my course,
when I was training to be a teacher.
This covered a vast array of topics and for this we had to produce a piece of work about
anyone or anything. There were no rules at all.
And so, when Nich was rummaging through all my old photos, on Sunday,
I suddenly heard him say:
'Mum, did you have a bit of a thing for David Bowie?''
Oooh, the things that come out of the closet!!!
And there, in his hand, was this:

I should say so! ;-)
I have to admit that I was Bowie mad!
I knew all the lyrics; acquired all of the music
on either LP (!) or cassette tape (!)
I was one of the lucky...(or privileged!) ones to
have seen Bowie, on his 1973 Aladdin Sane tour, in Southampton.
An evening that I will never, ever forget!
I even bought some shoes, just like these and cut my hair
'in the style of' ;-)

There was so much talk at the time as to whether David Bowie was an artist
or whether he was an exhibitionist...
and so my piece of work was born!
I looked at the date at the end of my work
Somewhat fitting really!
He's certainly stood the test of time...
40 years on and still going strong!
Brilliant! I loved him then and now too. Are you going to the Bowie exhibition at the V&A? We were hoping to go early August but tickets sold out before I managed to confirm dates we are visiting London :(
ReplyDeleteWhat you have written looks absolutely interesting.

I was too busy bringing up a 6 year old and a 2 year old in 1973 to really take much notice of the music scene, but exhibtionist or not he has certainly stood the test of time.
