Book 'finds'!!

Wasn't it fun to wake up today and find that Google

had celebrated Roger Hargreaves and the Mr Men?

Better still, that they keep changing the pictures...all

16 of them!

I don't have a full set of these books but it prompted me

to fetch them from my bookcase and remind myself

of these funny little characters!

Did you have a fave?

I remember that my daughter loved Mr Bump!

This was going to be a book blog post anyway and so moving on...

I found this one recently in the Oxfam bookshop, in town:

I'm quite a fan of the older Puffin books so was delighted

to also find this too:

Other faves of mine are these old Shell guides.

I happened to find this one in 'This'n That',Totnes.

With such beautiful illustrations,

the Shell guides were excellent, I think.

But my best little 'find' has to be this...even though I already had

one or two on my bookshelf!

I found a boxed set...

Once upon a time, there was a little girl.

She had a father and a mother and a Grandpa and a Grandma

and an Uncle and an Aunty; and they all lived together

in a nice white cottage with a thatched roof.

This was one of my favourite sets of books, when I was a little girl.

I'd read them over and over again.

So simple... and what an escape!

How I longed for that sort of innocent, country childhood!

Joyce Lancaster Brisley wrote and illustrated these books,

which were first printed in 1925.

The family meal!

A simple childhood full of simple pleasures.

This is how I feel that childhood should be!

Quaint... but at the same time growing up to appreciate the

beauty of the world around us.

Doing all the things which gave such enormous fun.

Exploring..

Learning..and loving life...

Come on, smile!

Playing

Bank Holiday fun!

Oh yes, Millicent Margaret Amanda...

you had the most fabulous childhood...

a childhood with all the right values , that's for sure!

Simply a joy!

Have you acquired any good books just lately?

If so...do tell!!

Hope everyone has a good week ;-) x

  2. Oh Milly Molly Mandy! Big smile! I never read them as a child but loved, loved, loved reading them to Ellen when she was small. We used to have all of them in a more modern version than yours (yours are much nicer), but we also have two 'Utility' versions from way back. What an idyllic life she led...

  4. I've been loving Google today :) My boys both loved the MrMen when they were small - we did have a complete set but sold it on once they'd grown out of them.

Big son still says his favourite book was MrTickle - I think we knew them all without actually having to read the words!

  8. I LOVED Milly Molly Mandy when I was little. Loved the little map on the inside cover always...it helped me imagine myself to be there!
Sometimes when I read a book now, I often jot names of places or people in the story, on the inside cover, to 'help' in my reading of it!
Just ordered the new Ruth Saberton book from Amazon to take on holiday!

  9. Oh, you have stirred up some memories - Heidi was my absolute favourite and I loved Milly Molly Mandy. My little man had the whole Mr Men set but sadly thinks he is too grown up for them now! I have been loving the Google taken on them today. x

  10. What a wonderful find, I love Milly Molly Mandy or MMM as my Nanna used to say as I used to make her red me the books over and over again. I would love to have that collection, I must look harder in the CS.
    Enjoy your wonderful books.

  11. I am pretty sure we have a full set of Mr Men books, they were great, weren't they? Our two sons loved them. Every night they would choose one of the stories for Chris to read to them, without him looking. Then they would ask him to guess which book it was and he always got it right - of course, he was looking in the mirror and could see the book, but they thought he was dashed clever! "How do you know?" they would ask, but it was years before he told them the secret!
