It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.

Fine words from a fine book...
And here are two such men!! ;-)
*******
Yesterday, we hopped on the train for a pre planned 'jolly' to Bath.
We travelled in comfort and we travelled with some jolly fine company too!
Here are two of us in the photo above, discussing the merits of Jane Austen!
(One of them dislikes her work, one does not! ;- )

As soon as we stepped off the train , we said goodbye to Nich and Tris and we made straight for Sally Lunns and... Sally Lunn's Buns!
We had a wonderful coffee time with the very lovely Michele of Cowboys and Custard blog/Original Vintage & Handmade Fair fame!)
I think we could've talked til the cows came home!
But we only had until 6pm to pack in what we could.
Saying our goodbyes at Poultney Bridge, we made our way to this bookshop, via a flea market!
Now, this is a bookshop which looks nothing from the outside..but when I walked inside..WOW!
It was well worth a visit...so much so that I returned to it later on in the day!

Having found the new Apple store, which was newly opened an hour or so beforehand, (and giving Mr S his little bit of time in 'heaven'), we then
grabbed some lunch and a pint before heading to The Royal Crescent and a little row of shops nearby.

One of the highlights of the day was a visit to the Jane Austen Centre.
http://www.janeausten.co.uk/

We sat and listened to a very good talk about Jane, her life and her family.

And then we were left to take ourselves around the displays.

I decided not to take my camera and so all of my pics were taken on my iphone and not quite as sharp as I would have hoped...but passable!

***
Back to 2010...!
As I passed by, I noticed that Jack Wills shop had some lovely displays
We rather liked this hacking jacket.

I was, of course, itching to get to 'you know where'!
Dear Mr S deposited me here for about 20+ minutes...
for my little bit of time in 'heaven'!

I didn't buy very much in CK...some packets of seeds , a birthday card,
some kitchen cloths, two packs of tissues..that was it!!

The necklace, I found in Rossiters, a fabulous shop almost opposite CK.
The book, 'Emma' , I purchased at the Jane Austen Centre.
I also found one piece of very lovely wrapping paper...I'll keep that until next time!

Soon it was back to catch the train ..and the great grand Jane Austen debate
continued!
Oh and Nich...you can borrow my book whenever you feel like giving Jane another go!!!
;-)

I hope you all had a great weekend!
We did!
;-)

  3. Oooh, lovely, lovely Bath!
We were there for a few days in January last year - it's like a gigantic film set. So beautiful!!!

I've been to the Jane Austen museum and had lunch at Sally Lunn's.
I can't wait to return one day!

  5. I love Bath! Looks like you had a great time too! I have been a few times, even been on the open top bus tour before it stopped going round the Circus so that was years ago! I have been iside the Hansel & Gretal shop and still have the tray cloths (posh tea towels really - but they were going to be used as tray cloths) unused I bought in there. I have stayed twice in the Francis Hotel right angles to the Jane Austin Museum on Queen Square but I have NEVER been inside! I'm going to have to go again thats for sure! Last time we went, we went to Claverton Manor - The American Museum.

  11. What a lovely day out you had. Thank you for sharing it.
Spotted the "£180,000 for first edition of Emma" notice, slightly more than the expert was telling the lady on Antiques Road show this evening she would get for her's - estimated £5,000 after binding had been restored.

  12. The male manikin at the Jane Austin place immediately reminded me of someone, but I couldn't think who. Then it came to me - it's Joey from FRIENDS in his 'smell the f**t' routine.
Glad you had a lovely day in Bath. The bookshop sounds interesting. xx

  13. Wow, what a lovely day out! Mum and I went by train to Oxford the other day & she regularly goes upto London for a day out, living in the country with very poor local transport services I spend my life driving round. I would like to cycle more but our roads are very busy with HGV's, potholed and dangerous, I can not wait until we move to the coast when I will have a little boat to go shopping in!
    Have an interesting week

  15. Hello Sal !
What a great day you had !
I'm a "fan" of Jane Austen, she's one of my favourite writers.
We hope to visit Bath when we come in holidays in England. Hubby is not a fan from Jane Austen but he wasn't a fan of Beatrix Potter before visiting her house and the museum in the Lake District and now he likes ! He "learned" what she did for the countryside and thinks she's a "great" woman !
    Have a nice week !

  17. What a great outing! I've put a link on my blog to you today. I hope you like my joke about the lavender sachets! (Please note, I am only joking in my post - both sachets are doing a lovely job in my drawer and not in my knickers!)I used your pic of them, I'm having camera problems at the moment.

  22. Sadly, neither of the single men pictured in this post are in possession of a good fortune. However you do have photographic evidence of Nich reading Jane Austen which itself is priceless ;-)
