Who lives in a house like this? ;-)

How often are you inspired by reading someone else's blog?
If you are anything like me, then it's frequently!
By this, I don't mean 'copying' their work!
(And that's a big one for debate..for another time... maybe! ;-)
Anyway, I was very inspired, the other day, by a tutorial on this lovely blog:

And so it's back to being a 5 year old today!
Didn't you just love to draw houses, when you were very young?

Using vintage fabrics, I've been making my houses on an old embroidered tablecloth and hopefully have placed them so that the back of the covered notebook will also have a lovely, embroidered design.

I think this will take me all week!

For my 20 minutes crafting yesterday, I put the finishing touches to my clipboards.

I'm rather enjoying this house business ...but right now, I'm about to put my feet up, for an hour.
This morning , having popped to see my mum, she passed this to me...!
I've never read 'The Lady' until that interview with 'You Know Who'!!
Ever since , my mum has bought the magazine and passed it on to me.
And I have to say that it is a great read!

Lo and behold, I opened up this particular issue (Feb 16th) to find an interview... and way hay... there's my good friend Margaret Powling, who often comments on my blog!!

Great stuff Margaret!

Oh and remember if you do need an architect to design your new house...
don't come to me!

  1. Hello Sal !
Yes, I'm inspired by English blogs I watch, but I invent "things" too, lol. I get inspiration in books and in everyday life.
I've no blog myself, no time to make it well, but it's always a pleasure to read the blogs I like.
I like your little houses, my favourite is the red !

  2. I love those little houses. I get inspired by other blogs too.

  3. I love your houses and will definitely pop over to the tutorial. 'Copying' for pleasure is I think a compliment to the creator. Doing so for retail purposes is altogether different and difficult to deal with. I read of some craft suggestions on a different site and the author stated DO NOT MAKE THESE TO SELL, but I was already doing many of the same things having never seen her ideas. I'd love to read your post on the subject?!xx

  6. Hi Sal, I DO get inspiration from other bloggers - but inspiration's as far as I get. The idea sits in my head, has a bit of a mooch about in there. I then think of ways I can improve the idea. Then, the very next day I catch another idea - and that one pushes out the original one. Oh Glory Be! Why did my doctor take my HRT away from me, boo, hoo. Sue XX

  8. Love your houses and your blog is always so colourful and inspirational! I agree with Sue at Dollytub Cottage; it is lovely to be inspired by other people and then run with the idea, sometimes creating a variation, other times ending up with something completely different. I always give credit and a link (if possible) to the original idea and, although I am quite new to blogging, I hope that this is acceptable.

  9. My mum always used to get The Lady magazine and at one time it used to be a bit old fashioned..but it has moved with the times and is a good read. She used to find the cottages we rented for our holidays in there.I know the royal family have advertised for staff in there too!

    Bellaboo :o)

  12. Love the houses, Sal. I sometimes do a similar one on to a piece of card when friends move house - I do agree it is like being a 5 year old again. But there is something quite charming at higgledy piggledy houses isn't there.

  18. Oh Sal, houses are my thing! I am mad about painting and stitching them. I always send cards of cottages/houses I have painted! As a child I would draw whole imaginary fairytale villages, over days!

  22. Great little houses and a nice way to use up all your scraps too. They would make very cute quilt blocks. Thanks for the posting and have fun. I get very inspired with other blogs and you are one of them Sal. Have a wonderful day.

  23. I used to love drawing houses and still do now! Mine always used to have a little fence, trees, flowers and a curly path leading to the front door!

  24. you are always such an inspiration. I think I read somewhere that when you draw or doodle a house, it's a symbol of yourself - so if it looks warm and cosy and lived in, then you're a warm cosy person etc etc.

  25. What a lovely idea. Your houses are great. Hmmm you have me thinking now where could I use them!x

  26. Your little houses are so sweet. Yes, I often wonder where ideas really do originate from? It must be difficult to prove an idea is yours, when there's a high probability it has been used in a similar vein before. I may have a thumb through The Lady when I am next in WH Smiths! x
