How Bazaar ! ;-)

Bazaars, Fetes, Country Fairs...call them what you will...I love them!

I was lucky enough to be asked by Amanda (Shabby Chick, Totnes stall) to join her and do a 'Country Fair' at a place very near here, called Blackpool School. It's at Liverton, in a very pleasant setting, nestled in the foothills of Dartmoor.

So that's where we'll be on Sat July 4th, weather permitting, with some of my hand made goodies and some of her lovely delights!

Which means I've been having fun making a few vintage bits..starting off with some lavender bags because (yes ,ok, I know, I need to be struck down... before a certain lady in Paignton goes mad at me for this! You know who you are!) LOL

Yes, I took the scissors to a vintage tablecloth ! ;-)

As I was beavering away, I caught sight of this little book which is brilliant for all the basic embroidery stitches, if you can still get it. My absolute favourite.
And this one for vintage lovers...

Naturally ,one can also be inspired by these old faves...quite old fashioned but a must for the vintage craft room!

Which brings me on to this...an old favourite...very old fashioned... but one can improvise!

I hope you get to some of these gatherings, this summer.

BTW...Anyone for tea and scones?

I should say so ;-)

  4. I am sure I had that bizarre (oops Bazaar) book...I was definitely guilty of dressing with appalling taste in the 70's... but then weren't we all!!
I would love some scones right now... I have run out of cake and biscuits..

A lovely setting for your fair Sal.. wish we could come along..
It is my boy's end of term service in Bath Abbey so duty calls!

  12. OOh, you are a scream, Sal! I think that's the first time a blogger has referred to me in their blog! And no, I shan't pelt you with rotten eggs, or bits of Silko too small to do anything with, for cutting up that piece of needlework ... what you are doing with it looks lovely.
Hadn't you better make something with an American flavour for the 4th July fete?
Maybe I ought to start embroidery? The only thing I ever did was x-stich tray cloths when I was 8 or 9 and then the x-stitch didn't all go in the same direction, as I think it's supposed to!
What I do love, however - not that I have any, but we can't always have the things we love - are old needlework implements. An excellent book on this subject is ANTIQUE NEEDLEWORK TOOLS ANE EMBROIDERIES BY Nerylla Taunton (published by Antique Collectors Club.) Another book I have is THE NEEDLEWORKER'S DICTIONARY by Pamela Clabburb, which is excellent if, like me, you are interested in the social history of needlework. But one of my late mother's books which I didn't dispose of when she died even though I'm not a needlewoman is ERICA WILSON'S EMBROIDERY BOOK. This combines the social history with the various techniques. Just three more books to look out for!

  13. My grandma used to be involved in RNLI bazaars on the quay at Brixham. I found a photo of her at one of the stalls when I was last with my parents! As a child, we loved the bazaars, and often came home with a little knitted toy, or a pom-pom owl (which I still have!).

In France, to say something is messy you say it is 'bazaar'!

  14. How pretty - tea and scones - perfect. Reminds me of the garden parties in the village where I grew up - always held in the vicarage garden - we had to wear our best frocks and sandals; the fete or gala was held on a local farmer's field just off the main street with pony rides and coconut shies etc.
