I saw something nasty in the woodshed....splish splash!

Well...not any more you didn't, Aunt Ada !! ;-)
***
Apart from a few finishing touches (painting the door frame, adding a few new towels etc) our new bathroom is just about complete!

Normally a decisive person, I must have gone through the paint charts and fabrics so many times, dithering... and driving Mr Snippets crazy in the process!
A big thanks to him ! ;-)

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that I would choose yellow..as yellow is my least fave colour!
However, Farrow and Ball 'Hound Lemon' and 'Pale Hound' are not exactly your normal 'run of the mill' yellows..and I am pleasantly surprised at the result.
In fact... I am 'chuffed to little mint balls' !

And so here follows a few photos of prettiness...
but not before I say a huge thanks to Pete Wills, the craftsman to whom we are so grateful .. he gave us such class workmanship, thoughtfulness and care throughout... and a lot of laughs!
(and he patiently put up with me for three weeks!)

This needs saying, as no doubt everyone will look at the bathroom and swoon at the fripperies til the cows come home...but underneath all of that is the real work, the toil and the expertise.
Pete, you are a star!

I could not decide on fabric for the curtains..I'm a fabricaholic and initially purchased some Philip Jacobs Delphinium fabric..but it just didn't work with the paint colour.

Looking through my own stash, I came across the perfect match!

I knew then that I could pick out any of these colours...and so having discarded all the pink things from the previous bathroom....I got them all out again!!!LOL

These Zinnias, which were a present from my dear OH, a few years ago..an impulse buy in Topsham, I recall.

The towel ladder from Liz at Pretty Practicals.

This girl has been in every bathroom that I have ever owned, I think!

I wanted a mix of old and new..and here is one that I didn't cut up!
And then...

The bath mat saga!

As you can see, I have ended up with two bath mats.... the story being that the first one arrived ( from John Lewis ) damaged on the underside!
They told me to 'bin it' .....''BIN IT?'...so I mended it! ;-)

A touch or two of CK in the corner!

Naturally, magazines are a 'must' in the bathroom!

I've had this lovely magazine rack for years.
Dallas Simpson is the artist famous for many of those 'wide eyed' children pics.

Little flashes of colour!

And finally...this gap above the sink is waiting for a mirror...as yet to be decided..so any ideas would be greatly appreciated ! I'm open minded... but again I am dithering!

And just in case you didn't see it as it once was...

I do think that from now on, I'll enjoy my bath times, don't you?
Splish splash! ;-)

  2. It is such a transformation Sal.. I love it. You will be having 3 baths a day now then?
As for mirrors.. well I have always favoured the plain round glass ones with the chain to hang.. vintage of course.

  3. Sal the bathroom looks really cosy.
You picked a winner on the colour chart. Funny this, I was looking at that paint chart today! we are going to re-decorate my Mum and Dad's kitchen, i kept looking at that yellow and thinking what a cheerful sunny colour it was.

  5. It looks beautiful. I don't think I'd ever choose yellow, but my mum has yellow in her kitchen and bedroom and both rooms are absolutely gorgeous. I think I need to reassess!

  8. What an improvement on your 'before' picture! I really, really like light bathrooms (our downstairs one is so gloomy) so this one's a winner for me!

  9. Very pretty Sal! I love the yellow, and the curtains are so cheerful and gorgeous. I wish I'd been a bit more adventurous in my bathroom now but one day I might pretty it up a bit :)

  18. You have to accept the inevitable, Sal, you just cannot manage without your signature pink. The new bathroom looks lovely. You will sit in the bath (pink foam I hope) and revel in its beauty - just don't let the water go cold!

  20. That looks gorgeous Sal!!!
Sooo much better than before. I'm not a yellow fan either but I like 'that' yellow or maybe it's a lemon? ...whatever it works and looks lovely!
I'm not sure, but you could maybe try that crinoline lady mirror that you bought recently(...the one who'd laughed her head off!?) above the sink??? The floral garden on the mirror might tie in with your pretty curtains?
    Fab job...well done!
    Lol

  21. Ooh, Sal! A woman after my own heart! We chose F&B Pale Hound and Hound Lemon for the woodwork in our hall and our sitting/dinimg room (with, for the walls in the said sitting/dining room, F&B's estate emulsion in Gervase Yellow.) As you and I know, and perhaps others don't, these are very different shades of yellow from what is normally considered yellow - they have a hint of lime in them and they do change colour with the light that the room receives during the day. I just love these shades, they are my absolute favourites on the F&B range. And, as well as cerise, which you have a lot of in your bathroom as accent colour, terracotta (which we have in our sitting room) goes equally well, as does really inky Chinese blue. The room looks absolutely wonderful. I'm trying to persuade Himself (but not succeeding) that tongue and groove would look lovely in our tiny shower room, but instead he wants wallpaper, as in last weeks' Kirstie Allsopp programme. I don't mind just as long as we can get rid of the awful tiles which we chose (about the only real error we've made, I think, in the decorating stakes) when we moved in. They are too pale and insipid (sorry, tautology!) but then, in 1985, pale pinks and blues were all the rage and that was what was on offer!

  28. Is it normal behaviour to be staring at a photograph of someone elses bathroom for an hour, Mmmmm ;)

It is divine, and very thought provoking as we are in the process of decorating ours. Now we too are going for the tongue and groove and also have a little shower hesd quite similar to yours and we are arguing darlinumg husband and I as to what to have around the bath, he says you cant have splashes of water against tongue and groove from a shower as it would rot the wood, and I say well tongue and groove is so prerty. Well now I have seen yours, has given me some wonderful ideas :)

Thanks for sharing and thanks for the hug earlier :)

  29. Wow--that is one of the prettiest baths I've ever seen! I love the yellow (my bathroom is a soft yellow like that too) but what I really like is the splashes of vivid color you used, it's so cheerful yet relaxing at the same time. Kudos!

  50. Hello Sal
What a beautiful bathroom! I love yellow and that is the colour on my kitchen walls. It is an under rated colour. We have quite a way before ours looks as beautiful as yours, we need to have our completely gutted out but with all the other jobs to be done n the house such as my work room, our lounge and bedroom, it will have to wait a bit longer! Fabulous looking Sal!
    Have a great weekend
