"Twill sharpen your wits to cross Clun bridge" ;-)

We're taking a break very soon and ... we're off to one of our favourite counties, Shropshire.
Farmhouse accommodation...which means a good, hearty breakfast.. as dear DH won't tolerate this 'continental ****' as he calls it! We've stayed at the same farmhouse a few times and it never fails to disappoint.

I've spent the morning planning, although often the best days are spent when you don't plan, I know. I just wanted to be sure that everything we want to do, fits into our time away!!

And so... if anyone can recommend ...coffee shops, tea rooms, pubs, antiques/flea markets, junk shops, places of historical interest, gardens, village etc... here are the places on my list so far (including the journey there and back!) :
Chepstow ; Monmouth ; Hay On Wye ; Clun; Craven Arms ; Church Stretton; Ludlow ; Leominster (and the 'black and white trail'); Shrewsbury ; Wroxeter ; Nantwich (a bit off my map but a place that I've never visited!)

I've already earmarked this and I'm longing to visit : The Land of Lost Content

It looks fabulous!
Hopefully, I won't even need to take a blogging break because at the weekend, my dear DH bought me a pressy... I became the proud owner of ....an Apple iphone! So I can still keep up with what everyone else is doing as well!

  2. Yay your are coming to Shropshire! De Greys in Ludlow is a must for tea. To be honest there is nothing to see at Craven Arms, but take a look at Stokesay Castle just south of CA on the A49. Gosh there are just too many places to recommend though. Have a lovely trip and post piccies.

  4. Hope you have a lovely time in Shropshire. Used to live in Wolverhampton so spent happy hours around Church Stretton, Long Mynd, Wenlock Edge etc. (loved Acton Scott far museum = is it still on the go) Once, after a long walk at C>S> walked past a window set for afternoon Sunday tea - fruit cake, trifle, large flowered tea pot just being put on a stand - have never forgotten the sight (we were hungry and thirsty) it has stayed with me over the years.

  6. How lovely, sounds like you have a full itinerary already but Ironbridge and the Blists Hill museum are a great visit. Haughmond Abbey near Shrewsbury is beautiful. Much Wenlock is lovely and when we were there a year or two ago we found a great cafe called The Edge. Nantwich is a historic little town with several nice cafes - one of them has a 1920s shop you can sit and look at whilst having your coffee - it is in a delicatessen can't remember the name. Also at Albrighton there is RAF Cosford and David Austin Roses within a stone's throw of each other. Have a great time:)

  8. Hi Sal, oh lucky you, I've been to Shropshire a couple of times and love it. Leominster is the best for antiques, loads of them, you must visit Utter Clutter (if you google it you can get a map) which is tucked away on a side road, most of the others are all along one road, I don't remember the name of it but I'm sure you'll find it easily enough. Ludlow has some lovely shops too and Shrewsbury has tons of charity shops. Can't say about the other places as I haven't been to them. Wish I was going with you!

  14. Clun has a special place in my heart as it's where my grandad was born and raised. And Bridgnorth is another lovely old town - if you get there, go to 'Bailey's' on the High Street - lovely food!!

    Have fun :0)
