One of our very favourite ‘jolly jaunts’ is here, in The South Hams.
Known as The Slapton Line, it’s a wonderful trip! And we usually stop at our chosen cafe, The Billy Can at Torcross, for coffee or light lunch.
Slapton Ley can be seen in the distance; it’s the largest, natural lake in south west England and it’s separated from the sea by a narrow, shingle bar. It’s also entirely freshwater. The lake is surrounded by reed beds, marshes and woodland and this area has been a Site of Special Scientific Interest since 1993.
However, sadly, with the recent bad weather, this road has been wrecked! To repair it will cost millions of pounds….should this repair ever happen!
Thus, until then, local people have quite a detour and the businesses in Torcross will no doubt suffer.
Such a shame.
