Weekend bits and pieces…

We aren’t having a holiday, as such, this summer.  We’ve decided to ‘Do Days Out!’

And so I’ve been planning. I’ve taken ten days from now until the end of August, (working around various appointments, family meetings, etc etc.) and I’ve tried to plan longer trips and shorter trips…with ‘rest days’ in between! 😜.

To ease us, gently, into this ‘so called holiday’, and because we had an afternoon appointment, we started off this extravaganza, yesterday morning, by doing something NOT different! We went to our favourite nursery at Longcombe. Forgetting that on Friday mornings, this is the meeting place for the Totnes mums and their young children, it was standing room only inside and so we found a very pleasant spot on their patio, in the shade.

It’s a pretty little place to sit and enjoy the blue skies, the sunshine and each other’s company.

After that, it was the usual wander. The plants had all had a jolly good drenching and were looking pretty good considering the heat.

Mossy stones…we both loved these! Obviously not for sale. What a shame!

Grasses are fascinating and I’d really like to include more in the garden.

The selection of perennials were lovely, especially the Echinacea.

I came home with two more bargain, half price pots; two, lovely, Thyme plants and two of these:

CalibrachoaCalita Double Pink Splash
(otherwise known as Million Bells)

When we left home in the morning, these hadn’t opened …and when we arrived home, there they were to greet us! I can’t help loving these!

Whilst doing the watering in the evening, I came across a Jersey Tiger Moth on the patio. It was alive but flaked out! So we put it near the pond and hopefully it has recovered.

And then, later on, to my surprise, on the kitchen floor, another moth! An Elephant Hawk Moth! We managed to put this outside to recover!

But that’s not all!
Every evening at around 10pm, we have a visitor. We open the patio door and watch and listen whilst it chomps away on the food that we throw out for it.

This morning…after watching the rugby and waiting for the cricket to stop for lunch, we walked up the garden and….bunch number 6 was picked. Not bad so far!

Have a happy weekend!

  2. I love mossy stones too. Once we went off to Italy leaving elderly relatives to look after our house. The wife, an avid cleaner, has removed all the moss I’d been encouraging on the plinth of my stone sundial. On the bright side the house was immaculate and all the laundry done when we returned.

  3. Your garden looks like an absolutely paradise, not only for its flowers but for all living creatures in the natural world. Loved all your photos Sal, at the garden center also. Sounds and looks like a great place to spend a couple of hours. Thanks for such a lovely post and I wish you a happy week ahead.
