Thursday again!

Oh my goodness..the saga of the blue poppies...and the rogue red poppy!!

A while ago, when my blue poppies started to germinate, there was one seedling that was different to the others. At first I thought it was just stronger and bigger than the others but then, as it grew larger and so much faster than the others, I realised that the leaves were completely wrong for a blue poppy!

This particular poppy continued to thrive…and recently I had to re pot it…again. Filled with buds, it looked promising and I was desperate to see exactly what colour it would be! And then, yesterday evening…this somewhat bedraggled and ragged ‘thing’ appeared! But my delight was immense! I’d secretly hoped for a large red poppy!

This morning, before William arrived, I couldn’t wait to get outside to meet the new addition to the garden! I could almost sense the jealousy of the other flowers! 😂

It’s an Opium Poppy- Papaver somniferum. I had the biggest smile on my face!  And what is more…there are plenty of buds…meaning plenty of seeds later on! 😁

This started the day, rather nicely, and very soon after this, William was walking into the house, with his dad! Luckily, I had all of his art work prepared.

Some months ago, I sent away for some wallpaper samples. The designs appealed to me! They came from a company called Little Greene. Here they are:

The design, below, is from their, ‘Potter’s collection’, which references a variety of drawings and paintings from the unpublished sketchbooks of Beatrix Potter. She was an accomplished artist and much of her work was inspired by the nature that surrounded her home at Hill Top in Ambleside, Cumbria.

I decided to cut out some of these designs and William made a ‘Nature’ poster…

That done, we then worked on a ‘William’ poster.

William has taken to colouring things and he is doing really well now that he’s correctly holding the pencils/ pens !

I happened to have, in my stash of crafty bits, this set of wooden cut outs; William loved them and he coloured in many of them…

…to stick on his poster.

We finished it off with some printing.

William takes home  all of his art work to show his mum and dad. I guess they will have quite a collection by now! I’m running out of ideas but William has requested ‘Spider art’ for next week!
Lovely! 🕷️ 🕸️ 🕷️ 🕸️ 🕷️ 🕸️

Finally…

…our new furniture has arrived!

I found two, colourful, Sophie Robinson placemats at Dunelm. We went to collect them last night as the Torquay Dunelm is quite near to where we live. The service was amazing! You click on your email to say that you’ve arrived at the collection point, type in a code and then in no time at all, you are given your item!

The place mats are double sided but I wanted them for this side…’Sunshine flowers’…they suit my garden! And when I looked this morning..they had sold out! Phew! Seems like I had the last set! It’s been a lucky week!

  1. Gorgeous everything! I love scarlet poppies and you're going to have enough seeds for your own opium farm - well, one pipeful, maybe. 😎
The Little Greene wallpapers are delightful, and very appealing.
There's quite a lot of downloadable spider stuff. The cartoon spiders look quite friendly!
