Wednesday!

Once a fortnight, on a Wednesday, I usually go out with Nich and, generally, as we are both into gardening, it is to a nursery of some sort. I never know where I will be going until I jump in the car and he says, “ I thought we’d go to … today.”

Today, I had a treat in store as he suggested Bernaville Nurseries, just outside Exeter.

Obviously, coffee and cake is part of the ‘Wednesday experience’ and it wouldn’t go down well with William if that wasn’t on the agenda!

Afterwards, we looked at the lovely pond area.

The nursery is lovely. I’ve only been once before but this time there was much more in bloom and it was all displayed so beautifully.

I particularly loved the pink Nemesia (above) and it must be a good year for Geum as they were everywhere.

And then…oh dear…we came face to face with these Nicotiana, a plant that I love but I didn’t grow from seed this year. And we stopped and stared and looked at each other …knowing exactly what each was thinking! 😂😱

The choice was dark pink, pale pink and a rather lovely yellow with a peachy tinge. William chose the dark pink, Nich chose the yellow and I chose the pale pink and the yellow.

I guess that you can’t go home empty handed, even though we both agreed that our gardens each need a sign saying, ‘ No Vacancies!!’ 😁

Back at Nich’s house, we chatted about RHS Chelsea, as we are both enjoying it this year.

I was excited to see that Hare Spring Cottage Plants has won a gold medal. I’m really looking forward to visiting another of their open days in two weeks time …weather permitting! So watch this space!

After we’d exhausted RHS Chelsea, we had a wander around Nich’s garden:

A pretty Philadelphus, just coming into bloom, caught my eye, as did a massive Salvia…

… as well as the usual, garden staples…Erysimum ‘Bowles Mauve’, Erigeron karvinskianus and a yellow Geum ( possibly ‘Lady Stratheden’)

Another wonderful Wednesday and I came home feeling very inspired, garden wise!

  2. One couldn't fail to be inspired by that nursery. It's a lovely way to spend time with your son and grandson.

  3. Coffe/tea and cake are essentials to a visit to any garden plant place. Those Nicotianas are very pretty. My favourite is the yellow one.
