Earlier this morning, as my other half was still sleeping, I took a walk around the garden.
And there’s been an interesting competition going on as to which rose will bloom first! I’ve been watching this with interest!
By a very narrow margin, I can announce that the winner is ….drum roll please…Gertrude Jekyll!
With Roald Dahl a very close second…
But of course, there’s so much else going on that I’m almost giddy looking at it all.
In my garden, I like to include wild flowers and I was pleased to see that this was mentioned in one of the programmes from RHS Chelsea, and so you will find an assortment of wild flowers in my garden. I grow these from seed and I buy the mixtures that don’t contain grass.
My garden contains an assortment of plants that I grow myself as well as plants that I buy to ‘fill in the gaps’…(or I buy them just because they appeal and I cannot resist!) I’ll always find a place for them!
I always grow plenty of Foxgloves so that I can give away some to the keen gardeners in my family! This year I seem to have given away more pink ones as I’ve noticed that I have more Apricot Foxgloves in the garden. I’m about to sow these seeds for next year’s blooms and so, note to self…for goodness sake, label them, Sal!
These lovely Phlox plants, I found yesterday, (of course I did!)…
…when we ventured to one of our favourite parts of South Devon, The South Hams. I had found out that a nursery, called Potters Nursery, was open to the public, just for May and June.
I was delighted to have found this nursery and I hope to return next year! You can find the nursery here
On the way home, we called in at the lovely Longcombe Nursery for coffee and a quick wander around. I hadn’t intended to buy anything but you know what it’s like…something caught my eye and there was only one of them! May I introduce….
‘Cutie Pie’!
The blooms are tiny and the name is very apt!
Stunning flowers

ReplyDeleteMy goodness this is so good for the eyes. It is just like a sweetie shop for gardeners. I just love everything here today. I had a great day and this has just made everything even better. Thank you, Sal.😊
ReplyDeleteWow, Wow, and WOW! Oh how I wish you lived near me so you could teach me how to garden like you. So beautiful. You really have a green thumb, sure wish I did. I do plant things, and things do grow, but I don't have a nice mix of types of plants or color. I had the yellow stage with Daffodils, they bloomed abundantly this year (last year not so much), but cool weather, frost and too much rain did them in in too short a period of time. That was replaced with purple. My Purple Iris, my favorite didn't bloom well at all this year nor as long. Now, I'm in my green stage. The lilies are up and very green, but the weather hasn't been sunny enough to make any of them blossom yet. Thanks for sharing your pictures, truly enjoyed them all.
ReplyDeleteHad trouble with my link above, had something I had forgotten on my clipboard, sorry about that. This should correct it.
