And here we are in The South Hams, making our way towards Slapton and Torcross and then Stokenham. We were actually heading for Stokeley Farm shop which is just outside Stokenham. Naturally, the first stop was for lunch.
We then had a look around at what they had to offer outside:
‘Relish’ offers a mixture of antique furniture and outdoor accessories.
There is a Shepherd’s Hut selling unique jewellery and metal art and there’s ‘The Shed’, offering locally curated and sustainably handcrafted goods.
And I loved this pop up shop, which today had a fabulous selection of wooden crafts.
This is such lovely work…by Lou Griffiths. Her website is here and well worth a look!
And there were plenty of plants for sale too..but I forgot to take photos…but I did buy these:
Diascia, Nemesia, Salvia, Veronica, Ivy Leaved Geranium, and scented Geranium.
I wanted to buy some compost just to get me through the weekend, as I was getting to the end of my present stock. However, they only had small bags and so I suggested that we nipped into Longcombe Cross on the way home.
Mr Snippets questioned whether I wanted to get out and look around…well ‘Is the Pope Catholic?’ I mean! Luckily, he had brought his initiative with him….( that’s my other half, not the Pope! 🤣 And yes, I realise that there is no Pope right now!) Oh yes...back to ‘initiative’! He made his way to the ice cream cabinet and we sat on our usual seat just taking in the views and the surroundings.
Walking into the poly tunnel and with Mesembryanthemums on my mind, this jumped out at me as if to say, ‘Beat this!’ Longcombe’s Mesembryanthemums are way ahead of mine! But it was lovely to see! It’s always a pleasure at Longcombe…a small nursery with a big heart.
All in all, a lovely day! Wonderful weather and the best bit that I haven’t yet mentioned…those South Hams hedgerows and verges! Wow! This is the time of year when they are at their best. Bluebells, red and pink Campion, Wild Garlic, Primroses. It was absolutely lovely! ( But we were driving too fast for me to snap pics!)
It's a perfect time of year for English wildflowers
