A wildlife pond…the way to go!

As if he hasn’t had enough to do during the last week or so, my dear ‘other half’ has made a blog! At present, he has one follower ( me! )

He’s made the blog specifically for the new pond that he’s been creating in a corner of our garden; hopefully he will continue to post every now and again as we want to encourage as much nature as we possibly can, to the pond.

He's worked like a Trojan!

Yesterday, he finished installing the liner and he managed to use the rocks and stones that we already had so that meant we didn’t have to go out and search for more.

We re-potted some pond plants that we had in our mini ponds and today we made the short journey to a certain place that I love ( 😁), to buy some Creeping Jenny; we wanted it in order to soften the edges of the pond and creep over the rocks…that’s the plan!

We just need to find a couple of appropriate, small branches for creatures to enter and exit the pond easily and then throw in some Frogbit, Water Soldiers and Hornwort pond weed; all should arrive any day soon!

This new pond is approximately 50 ins x 33 ins and thus much smaller than the pond that he dug previously, which you can see here!

That was a task and a half but so well worth doing! Within no time at all, we had frogs, toads, newts, dragonflies, damsel flies and a grass snake that came for a swim. It was fabulous!  As it was all done during lockdown, it meant few interruptions and it all came together really well.

I’d advise anyone who has the space, to have a wildlife pond. My son in law has made two ponds in his wildlife garden and my son has also recently  made two! And it’s a brilliant way to get the children interested in nature!

Meanwhile, here is my husband’s blog!

Do feel free to comment..it would make his day! 😁

  3. Your husband has done a brilliant job with the pond and I shall be popping over to visit his blog now as well as yours :-) A wildlife pond is one of the best assets to have in a garden and brings so much pleasure.
