I’ve always loved this, from one of the Ladybird artists, Ronald Lampitt (1951). For me, it sums what is important at Christmas…family. And yesterday was a family day.
It was slightly hectic. I went to one of the local garden centres to have a ‘Christmas coffee’ and a catch up with my lovely daughter and her two children, my grandchildren, who are now 13 and 11. After that, we fetched our Christmas meat order, from the Dart’s Farm butchers, which has a small shop there.
That done, and having braved the exceedingly busy traffic, I arrived home for a quick rest and then my son arrived to take me to put a plant on my mum and dad’s grave, before going back to his for, ‘ Christmas present swapping’ and mince pies etc.
Of course, the best bit was watching little William open his presents that we had given him…
It was a lovely afternoon.
Tomorrow, we have been invited to my daughter’s for lunch and then we will all be getting together on 27th for a family lunch…including games!
Today, Christmas Eve, is a quiet, peaceful day. I always like to watch the carols from King’s College…and there’s a ton of other viewing too!
Meanwhile, just to finish off…this from ’Alfie’s Christmas’, ( by Shirley Hughes)…
The photographs and pictures are all beautiful. Your grandson looks so happy with his gifts, and I've always loved the illustrations in the 'Alfie' books.
ReplyDeleteThis morning, I'm off out for brunch with friends, then I will be baking Lily's favourite cookies. The girls are coming round this evening, for nibbles and bingo! Xx
