Buckfast Abbey is a place that we often visit as it has a lovely restaurant, called ‘The Grange’( below)
However, this week, we wandered across to the Abbey, to look inside.
And this is when ‘peace’ takes over!
Buckfast Abbey is a working monastery; a community of Benedictine monks reside here, living self sufficiently. The abbey has an interesting history too. You can find out all about it, here
I sat for a while, just taking in the calm atmosphere; I always sit in awe and wonder when I visit …and think about those who built such places.
The abbey is surrounded by lovely gardens, including a lavender garden, physic garden and sensory garden plus large lawns.
I always come away feeling as though calm has been restored in my being!
It's a beautiful place to visit, I have been in the lower vaults, which have the same wonderful vaulted ceilings, the area is full of filling shelves which are full.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful - a real balm for the soul.
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful to see the Abbey again Sal. I remember visiting it for the first time when I was 8 years old, and every year afterwards. We would always go to the shop and Mum would buy a few things there. Brings back a lot of lovely memories and I thoroughly enjoyed your photos. Thank you so much!
