Sedum or Stonecrop

The churchyard never ceases to amaze! Every month brings something different to observe, admire and even say, ‘Wow!’

And today was just that…a wow moment!

It’s a dull day; the clouds are hanging overhead and we’ve had a few downpours. Yet, grabbing a few minutes between the showers, we walked through the churchyard and there, before our eyes,it seemed to be lit up with yellow loveliness. A sight so bright! A sight so welcoming! A sight so cheery!

The wall is simply stunning and the Sedum, (or Stonecrop as it is also known) has come into its own.

It never ceases to amaze me how plants manage to thrive and survive in walls.

But thrive and survive they do! They are part of that wall’s contribution to nature, doing their bit and doing it effortlessly, it seems.

And the best bit is that it’s on our very doorstep and free to enjoy.

  1. Amazingly gorgeous!!!!!
I wish I had some 'ancient' stone walls around my property - meanwhile, having planted climbing jasmine, honeysuckle etc. at the ugly chain link fence between my neighbor and us many years ago, we do have that area looking and smelling pretty good!

  2. I have a soft spot for sedums particularly when they are growing out of old stone - whether walls or buildings.
