Yesterday, I did something that I have wanted to do for years!
I got up at the crack of dawn and set to, putting out my wares for the first day of my little, one man, vintagey, craft sale, displaying my handmade items and vintage fabrics to their best.
This is, you understand, one step up from having that 'produce table' at the gate!
(I tried that once, noone passed by, I sold nothing and everybody laughed at me!;-)
So, having been very successful in that department.....I decided to move on! Promotion! LOL
I have this lovely, little area right outside my study. It's covered and it's waterproof and so very ideal for what I wanted to do..it's a kind of 'outside in'...or an 'inside out'! I love it
And the birds sing all around ...and sometimes even nest in the ivy which covers the trellis surrounding it.
But not this year, thankfully. I could not have done this if the blackbirds had returned to the same nesting spot.
And so..
What did 'Day 1' bring?
Well...
I set up my things and then sat back and thought ,
'What on earth are you doing, Sal, just suppose noone calls!
You'll just have to pretend to all of blogland that someone did call!'
LOL!
Well, I needn't have worried (Phew!).
At dead on 11 am , the first customer was banging on my door, swiftly followed by more visitors..then more, then more! And of course there is always one...just as I was going to shut up shop, a 'late straggler' arrives!! ;-)
I'd only sent out a few flyers and mentioned this on my blog and there I was, drinking coffee and socialising from 11 am til 3pm..what a way to enjoy oneself!
Oh and selling my wares too!
I think what really made my day was a lovely lady of 95, who came along with her daughter. As she sat sipping tea she said that she had had such a lovely morning!
I could have cried...with happiness, of course!
I wonder what Day 2 will bring!
I left it very flexible, no RSVPs...I like the surprise element! LOL!
But even if noone turns up during the next 5 days of my little event, I'll still be very happy .
But I have a feeling that they will!
Do call if you are anywhere near me...and there's free coffee and free home made cake !!
And to everyone who came along yesterday who is reading this..thank you!
You made my day!
What a lovely day Sal.

Well done! Your 'retail venture' looks fantastic! So sorry that I can't be there. My Mum is viviting from Herefordshire and we already have rather a lot to fit into my 'non-shop' time. So .... you must do it again ... soon :)

How lovely, well done Sal, wish I was there. :) xxx
ReplyDeleteWell done - I just wish we lived somewhat closer to each other so that I could have popped in for a cuppa - and no doubt I would have found one or two things to add to my stash!!
ReplyDeleteIf I lived closer I'd be there - it all looks gorgeous & so tempting - hope the other days have been as busy :)
ReplyDeleteI am so pleased it went well Sal. It all looked beautiful. I would have loved to have made the journey to visit, but this week has been totally manic. I have had extra bods in the house... part time job and the usual washerwoman chores (bought a big lot of old clothes again last week!)Have a great weekend, Lizzie xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely idea, I am so pleased it has gone well so far. I only wish I lived nearer to pop in for tea and cake and to look at all your lovely goodies.

Sal, well done! That is brilliant, it is such a scary thing to do, I did it at Christmas last year and in fact I am doing it again next weekend and there is so much worry that no-one will come. So pleased you had a lovely day, next time I shall have to hope I am on holiday nearby or can make a holiday excuse and pop round too!
ReplyDeleteTake care
