Pin Money.... and a small giveaway!!

About a fortnight ago I won a small tin, on ebay.

I'd wanted one of these tins for such a long time. because I'd had one in my sewing basket, long ago. Over the years it simply disappeared to goodness knows where.

I won it for a low price, paid for it and waited...and waited... and then I get this paypal refund and a message telling me that the tin would not be sent after all as it was damaged.

Funny, I thought, as the item description was 'good condition' .

So , I sent the seller an email stating just that...back comes the reply...

'My husband trod on it.'

There must be a very witty reply to this but at the time I could not think of one..I was just miffed that a husband could be so flippin clumsy...
Or was he?
I must admit that I was a little suspicious.

So I just continued to watch another tin, which in actual fact looked in even better condition and a week later...
I won it!

And it is now quite at home, away from any man's big, clumsy feet!;-)
So...to celebrate...a small giveaway.
What would you have replied to:
'My husband trod on it' ?

Witty answers please!!

  3. I love all your tins and sewing stuff!

I am very unwitty i'm afraid, but I agree with sue, the squashed might have been ok! You could have asked for a picture to back up their dubious excuse! lol

  4. Clumsy "sew and sew" obviously couldn't see the point of pretty tins. . . that kind of man would needle me! x

  5. I would so very much love to win. But I am just not very witty :o( I love Surfa rosa and Menopausal musings replies :oD
It would certainly give me the needle if my hubby trod on my pins.

  10. My mum had a tin of pins like that for ages. I had her sewing box but don't remember the tin being in it - now I wonder what happened to it? Oh dear, how clumsy the fellow was, not feeling very witty today but I like Simone's comment:)

  11. I had one of those when in my needlework box when I was at school and, like yours, mine vanished several years ago.
Dorcas (Lane) would've said that such a tin was "her one weakness"! The husband who trod on it might now have pin tucks in his feet ...

  12. I would have probably been sarcastic and asked why was it on the floor where he could tread on it and tell him to watch his clumsy feet!!!

I have the same ladybird crochet book as you = and am starting to make progress with it!!

  13. My comment - I hope the pins stuck in his foot.......

Not very witty but the best ideas have already been said

  14. AHHH - I want that Ladybird book, as collect them and am learning crochet (ahem not very well, hence needing child's book) - I'm straight onto ebay.
    So...husbands hey...tut.

My reply would just have been....

'Your husband trod on it?!!!! Loosely translated you mean 'Like me, you leave all your little 'treasures' sprawled over the house, like little lethal booby traps, waiting to cause minor/major injury - and finally you got him! Bravo ! Either that or he just had enough and poor said needle tin suffered the consequences of years of marital suffering?'

Hey, I didn't say it was going to be pithy :))))

  15. Hmm very dubious - clumsy oaf! Not sure what I'd reply but I've had a run of those experiences on Ebay lately! One they sent the item to the wrong person who refused to send it back! The other who first claimed she'd posted it, then said she hadn't, that she'd washed the item, but that she couldn't afford to post it?? Excuse me I'd paid postage! When I questioned that she got all huffy and refunded the money. Then sent me a nasty email. Still I've got the last laugh, I found an even better item in our local charity shop!

  16. Maybe he found out she was sticking them in his effigy
    (hope that's not too lame)

  17. Oooh, Dorcas pin tin.... how that takes me back. I remember that at high school, in the first year we did half a year of needlework (with Dorcas pin tins!) and half a year of cookery. The needlework task was to hand sew (no machines), a cookery apron and then to wear it for the cookery half year's classes. However, oh woe ... if you cooked first and 'sewed second', which half of us did ... the apron came too late. It put me off sewing for ages but thankfully my enthusiasm recovered and I made all of my clothes as a 60's teenager!

  19. I would have said...

"Er, why was it on the floor?"

In the hope that people would then think I am the sort of person who is horrified at mess and would *never* have stuff all over my own floors.

  20. Hmm, lying in bed and musing on your challenge, the best I have come up with is:

'In 30 years of teaching I've heard some tall stories, but that one's a FOOT taller than the rest!'

Or some variation on that theme...

Thanks for brightening our days, Sal!

  21. I might have said something about the word "dorcas" and the word "dork" being so similar....as far as him stepping on it?? that is a pretty dorky thing to do! lol
