Hollyhocks and Crinolines ;-)

Sunday morning at the booty...and I found this lovely Hollyhocks plate...I home in on anything with Hollyhocks, Foxgloves or Delphiniums.

I really liked this Crown Staffordshire Hollyhocks plate... and I didn't paint any of the designs on it ...what an odd thing to say eh?

I'll explain...

I spotted this mirror...the only trouble was that the lady's head and bonnet were ...gawn!

All gawn!

No wonder she's just walked into a bush....;-)
Anyway...we can't have that , can we ?

So, what I did was...I brought her home and painted on her a new head and bonnet...
along with some missing bits of her skirt...lordy knows what she'd been up to in that garden!

The mind boggles.
LOL!

My third find was this little tin...I just thought it reminded me of somewhere...do you know where?

As for the rest of the day...

It was a wonderful garden day and I am happy to say that I had fun in my garden... but maybe not quite as much fun as my crinoline lady !

(Winks hard at you all!)

;-)

  1. Do you know.........it reminds me of Packhorse Bridge at Allerford Porlock Somerset. Does it say on the tin where it is?

  2. I think it is so funny that you had to paint on the lady's head! It is a good job that your other purchases didn't need fixing!.

  4. Great recup' on the crinoline lady, Sal! Like you and Josie-Mary, I love those three flowers you mention. I NEARLY painted a similar design of a cottage-type garden on an old garage door we had, but as the door was rotten and was going to be replaced, I decided not too. I just painted the gate rainblow colours instead.

  5. Hello Sal, I too am extremely fond of those flowers, they are so perfectly "cottagey". Nice finds and a great "repair" on your crinoline lady!

  8. I want that plate! I did have hollyhocks here, but they succumbed to rust on their leaves. Have sown seeds for new ones though, they are so "English Country Garden" aren't they? In the Yorkshire town where I spent most of my teenagehood, the railway station master used to grow them and whenever you stood on the railway platform you could see them. Lovely, lovely things... x

  11. What beautiful finds and you are so lucky to find these great items. I just need time to get myself out there a look. This weekend I plant to do that. The tablecloth is beautiful also. Happy Monday and have a great week.

  14. hi Sal - I bought two lovely breakfast cups, suacers and plates at Thirsk car boot last weekend for £2.50 I have since then been watching some on ebay its gorgeous. In Sunday am I was washing my cup carefully by hand after two lovely cuppa's and the handle fell off - I was devastated! So back to ebay I might have to bid now instead of 'watching'. I have lots of vintage cups and saucers but these are nice big ones. Whilst searching I also found you can get the Hollyhocks in just blue flowers as well. I went to a Vintage and Retro Fair yesterday in Durham and found a trio for £2!

  16. I'm sure you've already checked it out but here's a pic that looks quite like the one on the tin. It's of Castle Combe as M said in previous comment. Thanks for lovely pics.
