Walking, talking and parks.

I have always loved parks!

Many, many years ago, I took my first steps in a park, when a band started to play its music and I got up and walked towards the bandstand ;-)
(Don't you just love a park with a working bandstand?)
I think that my mother was somewhat amused... because I took so long to walk!
Having adopted a rather unique 'bottom shuffle', I appeared to be in no hurry to walk.
However, to make up for that, I was one of life's very early talkers!
So what I lacked in teeny tiny footsteps, I made up for in constant movements of my tongue!!LOL!
Anyway, I wandered through a park today. Sadly, there was no band or bandstand.

I strolled through the Rougemont Gardens and into Northernhay Gardens.

Just seconds from the city centre of Exeter, heaving with people.

Yet it seemed like a world away...so peaceful and beautiful.

All of this in the middle of a city! You can't beat it !

I will always love parks!

  1. What a lovely park you must have in Exeter - so much pink - such a warm, pleasing colour in the garden I always think. Love your pictures.

  2. Gorgeous. There's something magical about a band isn't there? Lovely photos of those flowers - the nicotiana are one of my faves.

I grew up in Liverpool - perhaps surprisingly it has a great many parks and they were always beautifully kept. I think they're so important for city families.

  3. Just caught up on your blog. What a beautiful picture's of the flowers, especially since I'm sat here at my computer with the rain outside!
Many Congartulations to Daniel for his achievements, you must be very proud of him.
How lovely are those bears? My mother collects them and I always feel a little loathed to hand them over...I tend to feel that I could offer it just as good a home!

  4. Lovely photos - I think parks are such special places and serve their community in so many positive ways. I too used to love to wander in the park as a child and feed the ducks - I still love them today. If you pop over to my blog I have an award for you:)

  8. We were lucky growing up in that we had several parks within walking distance. Spent hours on the swings...catching tadpoles in the river and paddling in the lido...where would you visit a lido today! Ours was eventually drained and sat filling up with rubbish, very forlorn. Happy memories though!

  11. I love the garden pictures. It is so dry and hot here that the flowers don't even want to bloom. Thanks for sharing!

  12. I wonder whether our local parks department are short of staff. We have some lovely spaces in Worthing with colourful bedding displays. We have lovely herbaceous borders with perennials, but these are let down by weeds. I do wish there was someone who could deep them down, they spoil the lovely effect they are making an effort to create. I can see why you love visiting your local parks, they are lovely places to relax and to take photos of. x

  17. I love parks too, they are so important. Before we moved out to the countryside, we lived in the centre of a city and I loved pushing Twiglet around our local park in his pushchair when he was a baby, feeding the ducks, smelling the flowers. We still revisit occasionally and last time we went he had a magic time in the playground and riding on the minature steam railway, which costs a princely 20p for two trips around the loop!!!

  18. Congratulations Daniel.

Your mention of Rougemont Gardens reminds me of the Rougemont Hotel in Queen Street where I used to go and take the minutes of the National Farmers'Union meetings held there!!!

I wonder whether the hotel is still there?
