It seems like only yesterday...Sept 11th 2001.







Extract from ‘Out of the Blue‘ by Simon Armitage.


September 11, 2001, a photographer named Richard Drew took a picture of a man falling through the sky—falling through time as well as through space. The picture went all around the world.

Five years later, the poet Simon Armitage, inspired by Drew’s haunting image,

wrote, ‘Out of the Blue’. The above is only an extract. The whole poem is actually

17 pages.  (I read, some time ago, that the length of the poem could possibly

mirror the height of one of the towers.)


Remembering all those who perished on Sept 11th 2001.
